What Next for the BIG 10…

Still reeling from their logo and division name debacles, the conference suffered intolerably embarrassing showings from their top teams in today’s bowl games.  Michigan, Mich. St, Northwestern and Wisconsin were all defeated in marquee BCS bowl games.  All that’s left is for Ohio State to lose to Arkansas to make the conference’s  mediocrity complete.  Even their newest member, Nebraska, who will join them in the coming season got destroyed in their bowl game.

So, what’s next?  How can this once proud conference rebound?  It is really time for a Big 10 Summit to be held.  The Commissioner, School President’s and head football coaches need to meet to commit to a single vision.  They need to commit to upgrade facilities.  They need to focus on encouraging former athletic greats back to campuses and sidelines.  Put energy towards pinpointing and winning recruiting battles in states like Texas, Florida and California.  All resources must be thrown in that direction.   Finally, many coaches should probably be fired.  Hungry, young and innovative minds need to be brought in.

The current state of football in the Big 10 cannot be tolerated.  It is time to do something about it!
